Digital Freeview
Free-view Television is currently experiencing a revolution and there are three main factors involved:
-
Firstly, Digital TV is now the latest way to broadcast pictures and sound into your home. It provides all the usual channels, with further access to another 80 plus and will give a much clearer picture and improved sound quality. Digital TV can only be brought in to your home via a FreeView Box, which may already be integrated into your existing television or it can be purchased as a separate unit.
Thirdly, at the end of 2008 in Plymouth the old analogue signal will be turned off and all homes will have to receive digital TV. So what does this mean for you? If you already have a FreeView digital system you may find that the picture quality starts to decline as the change is being implemented. However, this problem does not automatically lie with the actual television. It is more likely that your current aerial is not enabling the box to function correctly. Therefore, all that may be required is a new cable and aerial that are capable of receiving a strong digital system from the local transmitter. If you do not have the facility to receive the signal already built in to your current television, you will need to purchase the FreeView box or a new digital television your choice. Should the box not appear to work once it is plugged in to your system, it does not necessarily mean that you need to purchase a new television. 90-95% of people will only need to replace or upgrade their aerial from analogue to digital.

Secondly, Sky have just launched their HD (High Definition) Television, which is a major advancement in enhanced picture quality. By increasing the resolution compared with the traditional format, much larger and sharper pictures can be received. The HD picture is up to four times clearer than your normal picture today.
